djingfordumm33H + R = ED

I’m sure that most of you are familiar with the above equation even though it was never taught to you in high school or college. It’s a fairly simple formula to understand and wouldn’t even require the use of a scientific calculator to solve. Why? The answer is linked directly to common sense and could be used to explain why a lot of relationships built on “hype” typically last a few weeks or even less.

Looking back, most of you could list the names of a few close friends or family members who got involved with a popular dancehall patron. And from the start, your gut feeling told you that their relationship would not last for long. Because it was not built on love or a personal connection, but on hype and the “guaranteed” popularity that follows.

The line “what you see is NOT usually what you get” holds truth since the manner in a person presents him/her self at dancehall events may not be the correct representation of who they are. Females generally are attracted to popular soundmen and promoters who get regular “forwards” at parties and lots of attention from females. Males predictably do whatever it takes to grab the attention of popular females even if it means spending next month’s rent on overly priced bottles of Grey Goose and Moet.

To generate hype around themselves and consequently attract individuals seeking a piece of the limelight is the ultimate intent. However, men and women that are easily infatuated by perpetrators of the “hype” lifestyle are often forced to experience the hurt of been with someone with an history of building relationships on false promises, lies and deception. Nevertheless, despite the predicted end result of such unions, many dancehall patrons continue to find themselves with those individuals not only as a way to show their importance. But as a way to prove to others that they have what it takes to be with the “best.”

So tell me, Why do you think some dancehall patrons are attracted to popular soundmen and promoters?
