Have you ever watched clips of dancehall events on Youtube and felt embarrassed by the actions of a selected few of party-goers? Well, you are not alone.
The other day I came across a few clips of dancehall events while browsing Youtube and was amazed by what some females had the decency to say and do on camera. One female, for whatever reason, felt the need to tap her vagina while proudly declaring “it” tight and buff. After which she began to express how much she loves her man and wonderful children. Was she subliminally advertising her goods to attract potential clients? Or is she simply having fun? In another video, a scantily dressed female in her late or mid 50s gave a shout-out to her daughter and grandchildren after declaring herself a “good-ole gal.” Was grandma having fun or causing an embarrassment to her daughter and grandchildren? Whatever the case may be, I felt embarrassed for the men and children whose lives will forever be attached to a video of their empress/mother making a total fool of herself on video. Perhaps their judgment was impaired by alcohol, but judging from their body language and the manner in which they spoke lead me to believe that they were not under the influence.
One thing these females need to understand is that videos of that nature will be viewed by thousands and a few of those viewers will be a friend, family member or potential employer. I am not sure if they are living their lives totally oblivious to the negative consequences of behaving in such a manner on camera. But if viewed by an employer, I am almost certain that they will not think kindly about a person of that nature representing their company. And worst case scenario, the employer might use their actions as grounds for termination. Predictably, some of you will argue that the females in the video were just having fun. True. However, the fact that they are adults with kids, jobs and a host of other responsibilities should be reason enough for them to be more mindful of what they say and do in public. The fact that they are in a party setting and everyone else is behaving inappropriately isn’t an excuse to stoop to a level that implies a lack of discipline and self control.
In conclusion, most of us have done things in our past that we regret and to this day, we ask ourselves the question: What the hell was I thinking? Now that we are grown enough to be held accountable for our actions – repeating mistakes we’ve made in the past is something that we hope to never repeat again. With age comes maturity (ideally) and the responsibility of not only ourselves, but those who look upon us for guidance. Therefore, it is our responsibility to lead by example, promote the importance of individuality and leave a legacy that encourages the next generation to become productive members of society. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going out and having fun, but like everything else – boundaries are necessary. Telling the world on camera that you are “a good ole gal” or declaring your vagina “tight” is not only self degrading, but a total embarrassment to your friends and family members.
